Record what actually happened
Save the service date, odometer reading, cost, shop, parts, and notes. Distinguish completed work from a recommendation you deferred or declined, so a quote does not get mistaken for a repair.
For DIY work, note the parts used and attach your purchase receipt. For shop visits, keep the invoice with the service entry.
Turn a vague note into a useful entry
Instead of “battery done,” record the replacement date, mileage, battery details, cost, and who installed it. Add the receipt so you can check the original purchase information later.
Use the same approach for routine services and repairs. Consistent records are easier to follow than a different note-taking system for every visit.
Keep the household in the loop
Shared garages let family members view and add records for the same cars. Logged-by names make it clear who added an entry when you need more detail.
Keep a copy outside the app
Export a vehicle’s service history as CSV from the web app. Store that file with your own copies of important invoices; the CSV is a record export, not a bundle of receipt attachments.
Start with the receipt in front of you
Add your latest service first. Fill in older entries as you find the documents, leaving unknown details unknown. Car Czar is in early access on the web and through iOS TestFlight. Android is not currently available.
